The paragraph that inspired the Helldivers
" There is no god. There was a heaven. The echoes of its beauty sounds at every turning of the afterworld. But this in itself is the greatest torture of all. The machinery of heaven is broken and there is no-one left to effect a repair. God has departed and will not return. The whole of his afterworld, his glittering, incomprehensible creation is a festering pit of madness and despair where the evil damned stalk the avenues of pain side by side with marooned angels haunted by their betrayel. Deprived of the light of god the spirit is tormented beyond understanding. it reels and twists in its own corruption screaming for release. But there is none. Hell is all we have, all of us for all time; the young the old, the evil the good. I came back to this world for one hopeless reason. I came back to learn all it is possible for a man to learn, every skill, every defence. I will be armed as no human has ever been armed. My weapons will be of the mind and of the body. They will be drawn from history and the geography of the world. And when my preperation is complete, when my body is a temple of discipline, when my mind is a sword of piercing knowledge i will kill myself. I will return to hell to try and make a second heaven. I will be the maker of heaven. I will be heavenmaker."
